ASHEVILLE, NC - Gary Sanchez slammed a pair of home runs, but his three RBIs were the only offense the RiverDogs registered in a 7-3 loss to Asheville in South Atlantic League action at McCormick Field Wednesday evening.

With the win, Asheville improves to 21-18, 52-56 overall, while Charleston has lost eight of nine overall in dropping to 16-23, 42-67 overall.

Asheville brought the big bats in the second inning for the second straight night, assuming a 4-0 lead off Charleston southpaw Steve Evarts. Joey Wong's two-RBI triple off the top of the right-centerfield wall highlighted the stanza.

The Tourists increased that advantage to 5-0 in the third on Corey Dickerson's two-out RBI double.

Evarts (1-5) lasted just 3.2 innings in his shortest start of the campaign, surrendering five runs on seven hits while walking two and fanning five, including four strikeouts in the third inning.

Sanchez finally got Charleston on the board in the sixth inning with his first bomb, cracking a two-run home run off Asheville's Josh Mueller over the 36-foot high wall in right field cutting the deficit to 5-2. It was the third straight game with a circuit clout for the 18-year old Dominican catcher.

That was the only blemish on Mueller (5-5) who picked up the win after giving up two runs in 6.0 strong innings, while walking none and fanning four.

Sanchez came calling again in the eighth, drilling his second home run off reliever Kraig Sitton well over the right-centerfield wall for his team-high tying 14th of the season, trimming the score to 5-3. Through three games in the series, Sanchez has clobbered four home runs and driven in eight runs.

Asheville scored for the first time since the third lengthening its lead to 7-3. Avery Barnes lined a RBI double against Charleston reliever Kelvin Perez and scored on a Wong sacrifice fly.

Game four of this series, and the finale of the eight-game road trip, is set for Thursday at 7:05 p.m. Charleston sends right-hander Shane Greene (3-11, 4.08 ERA) to the bump against Asheville right-hander Josh Slaats (7-1, 4.31 ERA).
