Three-Run Ninth Lifts Lakewood to 3-0 Win

Salisbury, Md. - After no runs came across over the first eight inning, Lakewood scored three runs in the ninth to defeat the Delmarva Shorebirds 3-0 at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Wednesday night.

Starting pitching was the entire story over the first five innings. Shorebirds left-hander Tim Berry held the BlueClaws to three hits over five scoreless innings while Lakewood starter Garett Claypool tossed six shutout innings.

Ashur Tolliver entered in the sixth inning and hurled three scoreless innings to increase his scoreless streak to 13 innings.

In the ninth, David Walters came on and retired the first two batters. Then, Domingo Santana singled. Anthony Hewitt followed with his 12th homer of the season to give the 'Claws a 2-0 lead. Later in the inning, a throwing error by Walters brought in the third run of the ninth.

Ryan Duke tossed a scoreless ninth inning for Lakewood and picked up his fifth save of the year.

Lendy Castillo earned the win over two hitless and scoreless innings of relief.

The Shorebirds play the series finale against Lakewood on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Jake Cowan will make his first start of the season for the Shorebirds.
