Greensboro Grasshoppers News Release
GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Lexington Legends continued their mastery of the Greensboro Grasshoppers with a 4-3 win Wednesday night in First Horizon Park.
It was the Legends' ninth win in 10 games against the Hoppers this season. It also had a déjà vu aspect to it - for the second straight night, Lexington scored a run in the top of the ninth to win by a 4-3 score.
The loss dropped the Hoppers to 25-25 in the second half of the South Atlantic League season.
Greensboro battled back twice to tie the game. Greg Burns smacked a triple that scored Paul Witt to tie things 1-1 in the fifth inning.
Down 3-1 in the seventh, the Hoppers scored twice. Jon Fulton hit his 11th homer to make it 3-2 and James Guerrero hit an RBI single to tie the game.
But Blake Jones got in immediate trouble in the top of the ninth by walking Lexington's Koby Clemens, who moved to third on Eric King's bunt single and scored on David Kady's double.
The Hoppers got a break to begin the bottom of the ninth when Colin Roberson was safe on a two-base error by right fielder Eli Iorg. Roberson moved to third on a sacrifice by Witt, but Nick Cavanaugh then struck out Burns and Guerrero to end the game.
Cavanaugh (1-0) picked up the win and Jones (6-5) took the loss.
Kady had two hits and two RBIs for the Legends.
The teams play the third game of the series Thursday at 7 p.m. at First Horizon.
