RiverDogs host Sand Gnats starting Saturday

CHARLESTON, SC - With only 8 home games remaining in the 2006 season, the Charleston RiverDogs begin a four-game homestand Saturday, August 19. The RiverDogs, the second-year affiliate of the New York Yankees, host the Savannah Sand Gnats, a Washington Nationals affiliate, at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park Saturday through Tuesday.

The upcoming homestand begins this Saturday, August 19 as the RiverDogs welcome in the Savannah Sand Gnats for a four-game series. Saturday is when the RiverDogs plan on setting Guinness Book of World Record for most people playing the harmonica as the first 3,000 fans will receive a free instrument on their way in to the ballpark. The promotion is sponsored by Sun Trust Bank and the all-new My TV Charleston. The gates open at 6:00 p.m. while first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. Additionally, the RiverDogs will be honoring a friend of the RiverDogs who recently passed away. T. Ashton Phillips was a devoted fan of baseball and the RiverDogs and in a pre-game ceremony Mr. Phillips' family will be recognized and the seat where he held season tickets since the opening of Riley Park will be painted orange and forever retired in his memory. The RiverDogs will also announce the creation of the T. Ashton Phillips Service Award, to be given out annually to a local resident who best exemplifies the team spirit embodied by Mr. Phillips throughout his many years as a successful business leader and local philanthropist.

Sunday, August 20 is the fourth Dog Day at Riley Park as fans are invited to bring along their canine companions to the ballpark. It is another Family Day presented by Charleston County Parks & Recreation and the Charleston IMAX Theater. Family Sundays offer parents and children the opportunity to play catch on the field before the game, and kids are permitted to run the bases and secure autographs from RiverDogs players following the contest while outside of the ballpark free pony rides are offered to kids.The RiverDogs will continue their food drive in cooperation the Lowcountry Food Bank. Any fan who brings four canned items will receive a free general admission ticket to the game. The Lowcountry Food Bank distributes 10 million pounds of food annually and serves all ten coastal communities. Sunday's game is also presented by WAZS and the afternoon game is set for a 4:05 p.m. first pitch.

Are you ready for some football? Monday, August 21 has Monday Night Football at The Joe. Fans are encouraged to wear the gear, jerseys, even helmets, of their favorite football squad to save $1 off a general admission ticket at the door. All night long the RiverDogs will be hosting football inspired promotions and The Joe will be the only place in Charleston you can play the brand new EA Sports Madden 2007 football game- a day before it is released to the public! Come down and get your football fix and play the all new Madden football game courtesy of GameStop and Costco. Monday is also a Dogs With A Cause night benefiting the Coastal Conservation League and it is Swat the Sand Gnats Night as Palmetto Exterminators will be handing out free t-shirts and fly swatters. The gates open at 6:00 p.m. and the 7:05 p.m. game is also presented by Cat Country 107.5.

From the gridiron to the ice rink- the homestand comes to a close on Tuesday, August 22 as the RiverDogs and South Carolina Stingrays present I'd Give My Two Front Teeth to Play Hockey Night. Members of the Stingrays, Charleston's professional hockey team, will be on hand to throw out a first pitch and sign autographs and their will be hockey themed promotions throughout the evening. Tuesday is also a Harris Teeter "Two for Tuesday" and VIC card holders receive a special two-for-one ticket offer. The game begins at 7:05 and is presented by 98X.
