Three former Gnats to play in NYPL All-Star Game

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Former Sand Gnats Jack Spradlin, Michael Martinez and Michael Daniel will represent the Vermont Lake Monsters at the New York-Penn League All-Star Game Wednesday night at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, Md.

Spradlin, a left-handed pitcher, began the season with the Gnats before joining the Monsters roster on June 6. With Vermont, Spradlin owns a 2-3 record with a 1.69 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 10 starts.

Martinez, a shortstop, spent the first two months of the season in Savannah, but was sent to Vermont on May 16. As a Lake Monster, Martinez leads the team with a .327 average and also has 19 RBI in 41 games.

Daniel, an outfielder, was optioned to Vermont on June 14 and is batting .305 in 36 games, which is second on the Lake Monsters behind only Martinez.

Spradlin was selected by the Washington Nationals in the eighth round of the 2005 draft while Daniel was taken in the seventh round of the same year. Martinez was signed as a free agent prior to the 2005 season.
