Hagerstown Suns News Release
Lakewood, NJ: An early 1-0 lead didn't hold up for the Suns as they lost 3-1 at Lakewood on Wednesday. Rafael Arroyo gave the Suns a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning with an RBI sac-fly, but the lead was short lived. In the fifth the Blueclaws (36-16) scored three times off of Ryan Meyers (2-10) which ended his 20 inning scoreless streak, the longest for the Suns (20-31) this year. Meyers got the loss but threw four innings, allowing just three runs on four hits. Jonathon Niese started for the Suns and went just three scoreless innings. His pitch count was held down to keep watch on a tired. For a second straight day Nick Evans had two hits in a losing cause, and Sean Henry was 1-3 with a walk and two stolen bases.
Thursday at 7:05pm will be game three of four, and the Suns will have to contend with the best pitcher in the league, LHP Matt Maloney who is first in wins and strikeouts, and second in ERA in the league. The Suns will counter with young phenom RHP Deolis Guerra who hasn't given up more than three runs in a game this year. The next Suns home game in Monday, August 28th at 7:05pm versus Lake County.
