Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, OH)--Vito Chiaravalloti lined a two-run homer in the sixth inning Wednesday night, to lift the visiting Delmarva Shorebirds to a 5-2 win over the Lake County Captains at Classic Park.
Chiaravalloti, acquired by the Orioles in a trade with the Blue Jays last month, hit his eighth homer of the year for the Shorebirds (19-31). His homer off Daniel Eisentrager (0-1) came after a lead-off single by Blake Davis and gave the Shorebirds a 4-2 lead.
Jarod Rine clubbed a solo shot later in the inning to make it 5-2.
Josh Potter (3-5) tossed four innings of relief for Delmarva to pick up the win. Blake Owen worked the ninth for his seventh save.
The Captains (28-22) fell to seven games back with 18 left to play. Lakewood defeated Hagerstown 3-1 for its seventh straight win.
The Captains scored twice in the fifth off Potter to tie the game at 2-2. Matt Fornasiere tripled and came home on Nick Petrucci's RBI single. After Niuman Romero singled to move Petrucci to third, Mike Conroy lifted a sacrifice fly to center to drive in Petrucci.
Captains starter Frank Herrmann gave up two runs on three hits over five innings, but didn't factor in the decision.
In game three of the series Thursday, Jeff Stevens will square off against Delmarva's David Hernandez at 7:05 p.m.
