Greenville Drive News Release
Lexington, KY - Hits came by the truckload for the Lexington Legends, as they pounded out 18 on their way to a 13-2 thumping of the Drive Tuesday night. All nine of Lexington's batters collected a hit, six of whom had multiple hits.
The Drive used five pitchers in the loss, with the Legends plating runs each of them except for catcher Will Vazquez who came in the ninth and pitched a scoreless frame.
Jose Alvarez (0-1) was victimized by Lexington first, surrendering two runs in the bottom of the first. The Legends began the inning with three straight singles, including Russell Dixon's first of three hits.
Max Sapp, who went 3-for-4, led off the bottom of the fourth with a solo homer and after giving up two more hits, Alvarez was replaced by Ryne Lawson. The Legends relentless offense continued as Lawson allowed both inherited runners to score, before surrendering three runs of his own, for a total of seven in the inning.
An inning later it was Chad Povich's turn to be abused, as Lexington added three more runs to increase their lead to 12-0. Four of the first five batters Povich faced tallied hits, led by Matt Cusick's two-run double and Dixon's RBI-single.
After being held scoreless for the first five innings of the game by Leandro Cespedes (1-0), the Drive finally got on the scoreboard off reliever Jordan Powell as Manny Arambarris singled home Yamaico Navarro. Navarro knocked in the Drive's other run an inning later with a sacrifice fly.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Legends greeted Joseph Guerra rudely by lacing three consecutive hits for their final run of the game. Guerra joined the Drive earlier in the day after last night's starter, Austin Bailey, was placed on the disabled list.
The Drive and Legends continue their four-game series tomorrow evening with first pitch set for 7:05 PM at Applebee's Park. Greenville will send right-hander Chris Province to the mound as Lexington sends right-hander Jacob Leonhardt.
After the series and Lexington and a four-game set in West Virginia with the Power, the Drive return home to Fluor Field at the West End on Tuesday, April 15th.
