Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

Kannapolis, NC - Intimidators starter Charlie Shirek was outdueled by Tourists starter Jhoulys Chacin in a 2-0 loss for Kannapolis at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium.

Shirek lasted 5.1 innings giving up five hits, one run (unearned) while striking out four. But Chacin lasted eight innings giving up three hits, no runs, one walk with nine strikeouts. Also, Chacin twice pitched himself out of bases loaded jams (sixth and eighth innings) to preserve the lead.

Kannapolis had its best scoring chance in the eighth inning. John Curtis led off against Chacin with a walk. Curtis was lifted for a pinch runner, Andrew Mead. Joe Persichina pinch-hit for Mike Grace. The move paid off with Persichina singling to left. Greg Paiml followed with a bunt single to load up the bases. But Chacin struck out Sergio Morales and Dale Mollenhauer. Then Intimidators' Christian Marrero hit a line drive to right field but before the ball left the infield Everth Cabrera dove and robbed Marrero of a base hit from his second base position.

The Intimidators have dropped the first two games of the four-game set with Asheville. The two teams meet tomorrow at 10:05am at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium for the first Education Day of the season. Call 704-932-FANS or buy tickets on-line at intimidatorsbaseball.com.
