
Legends Take Three-Game Series over Power

APPALACHIAN POWER PARK (Charleston, WV) - The Lexington Legends and West Virginia Power resumed a suspended game from last night then wrapped up the evening with their regularly scheduled game. The Legends took the first game, 7-6, then the Power walked it off in the second game 8-7.
The Legends and Power resumed the first game in the top of the fourth inning. With Brewer Hicklen on third and MJ Melendez on first, Nick Pratto singled home Hicklen and the Legends led 1-0. Cal Jones then loaded the bases after he drew a walk. With Marten Gasparini at the plate, the Power allowed a passed ball, allowing Melendez to score, extending Lexington's lead 2-0.
The Power took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Rodolfo Castro singled down the left field line then moved to third on a double by Ben Bengtson. With runners at second and third, Chris Sharpe grounded out to the shortstop, Matt Morales and Castro scored. Raul Siri then doubled home Bengtson and the game was tied at two. Ryan Peurifoy hit an RBI single down the right field line, and West Virginia led 3-2.
Lexington answered in the top of the fifth inning, courtesy of a solo home run by Matt Morales, his first of the season, and the game was tied again at three.
In the top of the sixth, Dennicher Carrasco single to centerfield then moved to second when Jones was walked. Gasparini smacked a two-run single to centerfield and the Legends were back on top, 5-3.
West Virginia tied the game again in the bottom of the sixth. Sharpe and Siri drew back-to-back walks then both scored on a two-run double to center field by Jesse Medrano. The Legends and Power were tied at five after the sixth inning.
In the top of the seventh, Hicklen struck out swinging but reached first on a wild pitch by Sergio Cubilete. Pratto hit a ground ball to right field, scoring Hicklen and the Legends led 6-5.
In the bottom of the seventh, Sanchez singled with a bunt ground ball down the third base side, then was joined on the base path by Fabricio Macias who drew a walk. Bengston grounded out to the shortstop Morales and Sanchez scored, tying the game again at six.
Lexington plated their final run of the game in the top of the eighth. Manny Olloque doubled to centerfield then moved to third on a fly out by Jones. Olloque scored on a balk and the Legends held on to win, 7-6.
Danny Hrbek was awarded the win for the Legends tossing 1.2 innings allowing one run on one hit while walking three. Beau Sulser was given the loss pitching 2.0 innings allowing one run on one hit while striking out two.
In game two, West Virginia began scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Oneil Cruz leadoff with a double to right field. Castro then blasted a two-run home run to put the Power up 2-0. Sharpe was then hit by a pitch and moved to third on a single by Raul Hernandez. With Peurifoy at the plate, catcher Sebastian Rivero allowed a passed ball and Sharpe scored. West Virginia led 3-0 after the first inning.
In the top of the second, Cristian Perez singled to centerfield then advanced to second on a pickoff error by Raul Hernandez. Jones smacked an RBI double to left field and the Legends were on the board, 3-1.
In the bottom of the same inning, Sanchez hit a ground-rule double down the left-field line. Calvin Mitchell singled to left field and Sanchez scored, extending the Power's lead 4-1.
In the top of the third, MJ Melendez and Pratto drew back-to-back walks. Rivero singled to centerfielder Peurifoy while Melendez scored, cutting the Power's lead in half 4-2.
In the top of the fifth inning, Rivero drew a leadoff walk then Seuly Matias blasted his MiLB leading 25th homer of the season, tying the game at four.
With the game tied at four, the Legends and Power needed extra innings. In the top of the eighth, Olloque was placed at second base as the Pace of Play Runner. Jones put an RBI single back to the pitcher, scoring Olloque and the Legends led 5-4.
The Power tied the game again in the bottom of the inning. Bengtson was placed on second as the Pace of Play Runner then scored on an RBI single by Hernandez and the game was tied at five.
Morales began the top of the ninth inning at second base then moved to third on a ground out by Hicklen. Morales then scored on a sacrifice fly by Melendez and the Legends were back on top, 6-5.
Kyle Watson started on second base for the Power in the bottom of the ninth inning for West Virginia. He then moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Sanchez and scored on an RBI single by Cruz.
In the top of the tenth, Matias started at second base then scored on an RBI single by Olloque and the Legends led 7-6.
Bengtson was the Pace of Play Runner for the Power in the bottom of the tenth inning. Hernandez singled him home and the game was tied at seven. Peurifoy also singled moving, Hernandez to second. Kyle Watson then walked to load the bases. Cruz then singled to left field, scoring Peurifoy and the Power walked it off in the bottom of the tenth inning, 8-7.
Joel Cesar was awarded the win for the Power tossing 3.0 innings allowing three runs (all unearned) on three hits while striking out two. Sal Biasi was given the loss pitching 1.2 innings allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits while walking two and striking out one.
The Legends are back in action tomorrow, July 7 at 6:35 p.m. to face the Greensboro Grasshoppers.
