GREENSBORO, N.C. - Having extracted themselves from one bases-loaded situation earlier in the game, the Greensboro Grasshoppers couldn't do it a second time Tuesday night.

Lexington scored a run in the top of the ninth inning and beat the Hoppers 4-3 at First Horizon Park.

The loss was a blow to the Hoppers, who had just won three of four games on the road against Hagerstown. Lexington snapped a four-game losing streak while dropping the Hoppers to 25-24 in the second half of the South Atlantic League season.

The Legends scored twice in the top of the first against Greensboro starter Brett Sinkbeil. Eli Iorg doubled in one run and Mitch Einertson got an RBI when his "swinging bunt" scored Iorg from third.

Mike Thompson's RBI single in the fourth inning put the Legends up 3-0. The Hoppers got back in it on Brad Correll's two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth.

Lexington threatened to break it open in the sixth when it loaded the bases with no one out. Jason Iehl relieved Sinkbeil, struck out the next two hitters and got the third to ground into a fielder's choice to strand three runners and keep the score at 3-2.

The Hoppers tied it in the eighth when Greg Burns walked, was sacrificed to second by Agustin Septimo, went to third on a fly out by James Guerrero and scored on a passed ball.

But in the ninth, Lexington loaded the bases with one out. David Kady scored the go-ahead run on a passed ball by catcher Brett Hayes. In the bottom of the ninth, Sergio Perez struck out the side to preserve the win.

Perez (2-0) picked up the win and Travis Talbott (0-1) took the loss. Three Lexington pitchers limited the Hoppers to four hits.

The teams play the second game of the series Wednesday at 7 p.m. at First Horizon.
