Savannah Sand Gnats News Release

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Brian Peacock underwent an emergency apendectomy on Sunday. During this past weekend's homestand, the team's home run leader experienced stomach pain which forced him to leave Saturday night's game after the seventh inning.

Following the surgery, he returned to his home in Florida and may be out for the remainder of the season. He was officially placed on the Gnats' disabled list Tuesday. The Washington Nationals have not yet announced a roster move to replace the catcher.

Peacock's average dropped from .272 to .232 over the last six weeks. He had just two home runs and eight RBI over that stretch. He was only able to start three games at catcher since the Fourth of July, appearing in 22 games as the designated hitter.

Entering the All-Star break on June 18, Peacock was hitting .263 with 10 home runs and 34 RBI. He was named the Sand Gnats April hitter of the month.
