
Columbus captures comeback over Kannapolis, 6-5

Columbus, GA - The Columbus Catfish (23-28) and the Kannapolis Intimidators (18-31) started a four-game series Tuesday with a 6-5 decision in favor of the home town team. Columbus fought back from a 4-2 deficit after five innings. It marks a South Atlantic League high 22nd comeback when trailing after five.
The Catfish took a 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to 2B Travis Denker's seventh home run. Kannapolis responded with three runs in the top of the third inning and added a fourth run in the fifth frame.
SS Ivan DeJesus led off the sixth inning with a double to right field and moved to third base on a wild pitch. Denker followed with a ground ball to third base. 3B Juan Camacho made a play for DeJesus at the plate, but the throw sailed high, making it 4-3 and moving Denker to second base. RF Lucas May then slammed his 14th home run to give Columbus a 5-4 lead. May has three home runs and six RBI in the last three games.
The Intimidators tied the scored at 5-5 in the top of the seventh inning, but Columbus regained the lead in the bottom of the inning. With two outs CF Bridger Hunt hit a ground ball to second base, but hustled down the line for an infield single. He them moved to second base on a wild pitch. DeJesus promptly knocked him in for a 6-5 lead, the eventual final score.
RHP James McDonald allowed five runs, only three of which were earned, in 6 1/3 innings. He was followed by RHP Matt Gomez de Segura, who did not allow a run in 1 2/3 innings. RHP Ramon Troncoso tossed a perfect ninth inning for his fourteenth save. The loss went to RHP Brian Omogrosso, who gave up one run in two innings of relief.
