The Lexington Legends scored nine runs in the first inning and never looked back in a 14-1 victory over the Hagerstown Suns Monday night at Applebee's Park. The big win came on a big night for Legends outfielder Jake Goebbert, who drove in five runs to take the South Atlantic League lead in RBI, and also set a new Legends record for doubles in one season.

Jimmy Paredes led off the first inning for the Legends with a single, and came around to score on a double by Jiovanni Mier. After Goebbert walked to put runners at first and second, Kody Hinze smacked a three-run homer down the left-field line, extending the lead to 4-0. The homer was Hinze's 17th of the season, and the three RBI gave him 91 for the year.

Following the home run, Aaron Bray and Ben Heath drew walks from Hagerstown starter Paul Demny. After Jonathan Meyer was called out on strikes, Renzo Tello was hit by a pitch, ending Demny's night after eight batters. Grant Hogue greeted reliever Wanel Vasquez with a single to left field, scoring Bray and Heath to give the Legends a 6-0 lead. Paredes, batting for the second time in the inning, singled to center to score Tello. Mier grounded into a force play at second, and when second baseman Adrian Sanchez's throw went past first for an error, Hogue scored from third and Legends led 8-0. Goebbert then singled to bring Mier home with the ninth run of the inning, in which the Legends sent 14 batters to the plate. The Suns scored their lone run of the night in the top of the third. Eury Perez singled to right and stole second base, tying him for the league lead in steals with Jeremy Hazelbaker of Greenville at 58. Perez moved to third on a double play, and a wild pitch by Lexington starter Jose Cisnero allowed him to score.

Lexington added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth on Goebbert's bases-loaded double with two outs. It was Goebbert's league-leading 43rd double of the year, and it broke the Legends' single-season record of 42 set by Felix Escalona in 2001.

Goebbert picked up his fifth RBI of the night with a sacrifice fly in the seventh as the Legends tacked on another run for a 13-1 advantage. Goebbert has 92 RBI on the season to lead the SAL, one ahead of Hinze, and two ahead of Chris Dominguez of Augusta and Ian Gac of Kannapolis.

Hagerstown first baseman Brett Newsome pitched the bottom of the eighth inning in an effort to conserve arms for the Suns. The Legends scored their final run off Newsome on a sacrifice fly by Hogue, who had three RBI in the game.

Cisnero (7-6) picked up the victory, throwing the first six innings and giving up four hits and one run. He walked only one and struck out four. Demny (6-9) pitched a third of an inning while giving up three hits, three walks and seven runs, earning him the loss. Legends reliever Brenden Stines was awarded his first save, tossing three perfect innings and striking out four batters. The series continues Tuesday night at Applebee's Park at 7:05 p.m.
