Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

SALISBURY, MD - The Kannapolis Intimidators had a 3-0 lead just four batters into the ballgame but didn't hold that advantage past the second inning as they lost the opening game of a four game series against the Delmarva Shorebirds in Arthur W. Purdue Stadium by the score of 5-4.

Brent Allar had all kinds of trouble in the first as Daniel Wagner and Ryan Lee each singled and Tyler Saladino was hit by a pitch before Ian Gac hit one to the wall in left-center, scoring all three runners and putting the Intimidators (31-32) ahead 3-0. The lead was short-lived.

In the second inning against Intimidators starter Matt Wickswat, Austin Rauch hit a two-run double and Mikey Planeta plated Rauch to tie the game up at three each after the second inning.

Both pitchers would settle down, but Wickswat would allow a solo shot to Garabez Rosa in the fourth and the Shorebirds (26-37) took a 4-3 advantage. Wickswat went six innings and allowed four runs but did not factor into the decision.

Allar stayed out there through the seventh, but allowed a tying run as Jordan Cheatham walked on four pitches to start the inning and eventually scored on a two-out wild pitch. Allar went seven and also allowed four runs.

In the eighth, the Intimidators summoned Chase Cooney after a scoreless inning from Jake Petricka and Cooney (0-1) allowed a ground-rule double to lead off the inning to Ty Kelly who was moved to third on a deep fly out to left and scored on a sacrifice fly to right. The run was the game-winning run off the bat of Tyler Stampone.

TR Keating (2-1) worked a clean eighth to earn his second win of the season for the Shorebirds and he worked a perfect ninth as he pitched to six batters with three strikeouts in his outing.

The loss is the fourth in as many games for the Intimidators on the road at Delmarva and they drop below .500 at 31-32. The Intimidators will go for their first win on Tuesday as Cameron Bayne looks to extend his advantage as the wins leader in the league and he will be opposed by first round pick Matt Hobgood at 7:05 pm.
