Hagerstown Suns News Release

The Hagerstown Suns (27-36, 63-70) were eclipsed by the Lexington Legends (31-31, 66-66) in a 14-1 rout at Applebee's Park on Monday night. The Legends brought fourteen men to the plate in the home half of the first frame en route to scoring nine runs.

In the opening stanza, SS Jiovanni Mier doubled down the line in left field to score 2B Jimmy Paredes, who reached on an infield single. After LF Jacob Goebbert walked, 1B Kody Hinze hit his 17th home run of the season, a 3-run lazer beam over the left field wall.

RHP Paul Demny (6-9), the losing pitcher of record, surrendered back-to-back walks to DH Aaron Bray and C Ben Heath, and then with one out, the bases became loaded when RF Renzo Tello was hit by a pitch. Demny was lifted from the game in favor of RHP Wanel Vazquez.

Inheriting the sacks full, Vazquez allowed CF Grant Hogue to rip a 2-RBI single to left field chasing home Bray and Heath. Following that drive, Paredes laced a soft line drive to center bringing in Tello.

Then, on a groundball to third base, Mier forced out Paredes at second, and on the relay to first base, 2B Adrian Sanchez threw the ball away at first, giving Hogue the chance to score.

Goebbert would also hit one on the screws to center field, summoning home Mier to give the Legends a 9-0 lead.

RHP Jose Cisnero (7-6) pitched well with the huge lead, allowing just one earned run and scattering four hits, while fanning four in the victory.

The sole run of the Suns came across in the top of the third inning when a wild pitch allowed CF Eury Perez to cross home plate. Perez singled, stole second base, and got to third on a double play ball.

Lexington tallied three more runs in the last of the fifth frame when Goebbert emptied the sacks with a bases loaded 3-run double to right center.

And the Legends scored individual runs in the seventh and eighth innings, when Goebbert lifted a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Hogue, who was plunked, and when Hogue, himself. Elevated a sac fly that brought home 3B Jonathan Meyer, a walk recipient.

Goebbert was the Legends hitting star going 2-for-3, with a double, a walk, one run scored, and 5 RBI.

Because he pitched three innings, RHP Brenden Stines got his first save of the season.
