Asheville Tourists News Release

The Tourists made too many mistakes against Hickory Monday night, and could not fight their way back in the end. The Crawdads won the series opener 6-5; scoring all six of their runs with two outs. Asheville had some two out hits as well, but they fell one big hit shy of pulling the game out.

Hickory scored two unearned runs in the first inning, giving them an early 2-0 lead. The Tourists came back with a run in the second on a Crawdads miscue, and then added three more in the third. Angelys Nina delivered a two-run double with two outs and then Dallas Tarleton singled Nina home.

With the score 4-2, the Tourists recorded the first two outs of the fourth in order. Hickory then sent seven more hitters to the plate. When the inning was finally over, the Crawdads led 6-4 and had batted around. Jared Prince hit a two-run double in the inning, which tied the game up. Then back-to-back hitters reached first by swinging at a third strike wild pitch.

Asheville scored once more in their half of the fourth on a Delta Cleary Jr. RBI single up the middle. But both teams would go scoreless the rest of the way.

The Tourists loaded the bases with one out in the seventh, but Nina lined out to second and Orlando Sandoval was doubled off first base to end the inning.

With the Greenville Drive loss, Asheville missed a key opportunity to gain a game on the Drive, but they still remain only one game back with eight to play.
