Legends Pound out 18 Hits, Win 11-3

Telvin Nash hit a three-run homer and Emilio King added a two-run shot as the Lexington Legends pounded out 18 hits in an 11-3 win over the West Virginia Power Saturday night in Charleston.

The Legends scored three runs in the first inning on singles by Delino DeShields Jr. and Ben Orloff, a two-run double by Domingo Santana, and an RBI ground out by Mike Kvasnicka.

The Power scored in the bottom of the first on singles by Drew Maggi and Andy Vasquez, a walk to Justin Howard and a single by Chase Lyles.

Each team scored a run in the second to leave the score at 4-2. The Legends extended the lead to 6-2 in the fourth when Roberto Pena led off with a single and Emilio King followed with his eighth home run of the year. Pena was four-for-five in the eighth spot in the order, and King, batting ninth, was three-for-four with three runs batted in. Seven Legends had at least two hits in the game.

Wes t Virginia added a run in the bottom of the fourth on a walk to Kevin Mort and a double by Maggi, who had four hits in five at-bats.

The Legends sent nine batters to the plate in the sixth. Pena led off with a single, and King was hit by a pitch. DeShields bunted for a hit, loading the bases. Orloff's grounder got past Vasquez at second for an error, scoring Pena, and keeping the bases loaded. A wild pitch allowed King to score, giving the Legends an 8-3 lead, and after Santana struck out, Nash launched a 400-foot blast over the wall in left to close out the scoring.

Legends' starter Luis Cruz (4-4) got the win after pitching the first five innings. Zack Von Rosenberg (4-9), the West Virginia starter, took the loss. He allowed nine hits and six earned runs in four innings. The series is even at one win apiece. The two teams meet again Sunday in Charleston. Game time is 2:05 p.m.
