Savannah Sand Gnats News Release

SAVANNAH, GA

- One night after winning on a suicide squeeze in the bottom of the ninth, the Gnats removed much of the drama from Saturday's game early with a six-run second inning on their way to blowing out the Charleston RiverDogs 15-3 at Historic Grayson Stadium. Led by leftfielder Alonzo Harris, who was 4-for-4 with two home runs and two doubles, the Gnats (37-25/76-55) set a new season-high with 15 runs scored and tied a season-high with 18 hits.

Harris reached base and scored a run in all five of his plate appearances.

He was hit by a pitch in the second.

His homer in the fourth put the Gnats ahead 7-0.

He ripped doubles down the leftfield line in both the sixth and seventh innings.

His two-run homerun in the bottom of the eighth completed the Gnats' scoring and put the team ahead 15-0.

The Gnats broke a scoreless tie to take control of the game with a six-run second inning, a new season-high for runs scored in an inning.

Third baseman Aderlin Rodriguez began the onslaught by pounding a two-run home run over the left field wall to put the Gnats ahead 2-0.

It was his second home run in as many nights and his 17th of the year. The 17 homeruns are the most by any Gnat since 2005.

Shortstop Wilfredo Tovar added an RBI double and rightfielder Rafael Fernandez and DH Albert Cordero added RBI singles in the second.

Gnats starter Erik Goeddel fired six shutout innings, yielding just one hit and striking out eight to earn his third win of the year.

After walking two batters to load the bases in the bottom of the first inning, he got out of trouble in with a pair of strikeouts which began a streak where he retired 17 of the final 19 batters he faced.

Tovar and first baseman Joe Bonfe each collected three hits.

Tovar was 3-4 with a walk, two doubles and two RBI.

Bonfe was 3-4 with a hit-by-pitch, scored two runs and drove two home.

The Charleston RiverDogs (24-38/50-82) scored their only three runs in the top of the ninth against reliever Adam Kolarek who went three innings for the save, his fifth of the year.

The Gnats and RiverDogs will play game three of their five-game series Sunday at 2:05 pm when the Gnats will send RHP Yohan Almonte (7-7, 4.02) to the hill against LHP Vidal Nuno (1-1, 2.67).

Gates open at 1 pm and the radio broadcast on News/Talk 630 and sandgnats.com will begin at 1:50 pm.
