Lexington Legends shortstop Raul Mondesi has been added to the South Atlantic League Southern Division All-Star team. The All-Star game will be played Tuesday, June 18 in Lakewood, New Jersey. Late additions are made to the rosters because of injuries or promotions involving previously chosen All-Stars.

Mondesi, 17, has played in 58 games for the Legends and is batting .239 with four home runs and 31 runs batted in. He has 11 stolen bases.

Mondesi hit for the cycle May 27 when he had four hits in four at bats against Kannapolis at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. He tripled in the first inning, homered in the third, singled in the fifth and doubled in the sixth.

Mondesi, the son of former major leaguer Raul Mondesi, signed with the Kansas City Royals on his 16th birthday, July 27, 2011. He batted .290 with Idaho Falls of the Pioneer League in 2012.

Mondesi joins Legends pitchers Christian Binford and Alec Mills on the Southern Division roster. Mills suffered an elbow injury in his start June 12 against Rome. He will not pitch in the All-Star game, but will travel to Lakewood and take part in All-Star events.

"Raul is one of the most exciting young players in baseball, and he's very deserving of this honor," said Legends General Manager Seth Poteat. "We'll look forward to seeing a lot more of him with the Legends during the second half of the season."

The Legends are in Asheville, North Carolina for games against the Asheville Tourists tonight (Saturday) at 6:05, and Sunday at 2:05. Following the All-Star break, the Legends will open second-half play against the Savannah Sand Gnats Thursday night, June 20 at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. Game time is 7:05 p.m. For ticket information, call 859 422-7867 or visit lexingtonlegends.com.
