Asheville Tourists News Release
Asheville, NC--Saturday night at McCormick Field, the Asheville Tourists defeated the Lexington Legends 6-1. The Tourists have won the first three games of the series and are winners of four straight at home.
For the third game in a row, the Legends plated the game's first run. In the top of the second inning, Michael Antonio led off with a double to left field. Tourists' starter Ryan Arrowood sat down the next two batters, but Jin-Ho Shin singled back up the middle and Antonio raced home to vault the visitors to a 1-0 advantage.
The lead did not last long as the Tourists mounted a two-out rally off Daniel Stumpf in the bottom of the third. Rosell Herrera doubled down the third base line and was followed by Tom Murphy's double off the wall in left. After a Francisco Sosa single, Derek Jones crushed a pay- off pitch from Stumpf way over the scoreboard in right-centerfield. Jones' Home Run capped the rally and the Tourists led 4-1 after three.
Asheville tacked on one more in the bottom of the fourth with another two-out rally. Matt Wessinger and Juan Ciriaco set the table with back-to-back singles followed by a double steal.
Herrera continued the rally with a single to left. Wessinger scored on the play but Ciriaco was thrown out at home.
In the bottom of the fifth, Matt Argyropoulos joined the two-out hitting party. Argyrooulos doubled off the centerfield wall to plate Sosa and put the Tourists in front 6-1.
Arrowood improved to 4-0 on the season and worked six innings; his longest outing of the season. Michael Mason and Roberto Padilla combined to pitch three scoreless innings in relief. The Tourists bullpen has yet to allow a run this series.
Asheville and Lexington will face off in the first-half finale on Sunday afternoon with the first pitch set for 2:05pm.
