JOSEPH P. RILEY PARK (Charleston, SC) - The Lexington Legends fell in game three to the Charleston RiverDogs in the second shutout of the series, 5-0. All five runs came in the third inning for the RiverDogs, with the Legends unable to answer back.
In the third inning, Ricardo Ferreira drew a leadoff walk facing Lexington's starting pitcher, Carlos Hernandez. Ferreira then advanced to second on a fielding error by Legends shortstop, Jeison Guzman, with a ground ball hit by Pablo Olivares. With Wilkerman Garcia at the plate, Ferreira and Olivares pulled off a double steal, to put two runners in scoring position for Charleston. Garcia then walked to load the bases. Hernandez then issued two more walks, bringing in the first two runs of the ballgame and Charleston led, 2-0. Hernandez then gave way to Holden Capps. Capps gave up a double to the next batter, Leonardo Molina, who lined a two-run double down the right field line, extending the RiverDogs' lead to 4-0. The final run of the inning, and ballgame, was a ground out by Eduardo Navas, plating Molina, for the final score of 5-0.
In his Legends debut, Hernandez tossed 2.1 innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on two hits. He walked four and struck out two. Capps pitched 3.2 innings of scoreless relief, allowing just two runs while striking out two and not issuing a free pass. Sal Biasi threw the final two innings allowing just one hit and walking one. Alexander Vargas earned the win for the RiverDogs, tossing five innings while allowing two hits and striking out seven.
At the plate for Lexington, Sebastian Rivero was the only Legend able to record a hit. Rivero went 2-for-3 with a double.
