Drive Use 15 Hits to Speed Past Hoppers

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Eight of the nine Drive batters hit safely as Greenville pulled away late in a 10-2 win over Greensboro on Sunday afternoon at First National Bank Field. It was a tough afternoon for the Hoppers, who gave up double-digit runs for only the third time this season.

Denyi Reyes (3-2) earned the win for the Drive, working 7.0 innings and limiting the Hoppers to a run on five hits with three strikeouts and a walk. Brandon Miller (0-1) took the loss for the Hoppers. The Greensboro starter worked around an early run and kept Greenville off the board in the second and third innings before getting into trouble in the fourth.

Kervin Suarez finished 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBI to pace the Drive, which tallied 15 hits on the night. Marino Campana added three hits of his own for Greenville. Hoppers hitters Garvis Lara and Marcos Rivera each put together 2-hit games to lead the Greensboro offense.

Victor Acosta put the Drive on the board with a solo home run (2) with two outs in the first inning. Acosta then sparked a 3-run rally in the fourth with a double to lead off the frame. Two batters later, Zach Sterry laced a 2-run single to center field for a 3-0 lead. Suarez capped the inning with an RBI-single to bring in Sterry.

The Hoppers got on the board in the bottom of the sixth when Lara led off with a double and scored two batters later on an Isael Soto groundout. Greensboro pulled within two, 4-2, with another tally in the bottom of the eighth as Lara doubled again and scored on a wild pitch.

Greenville, however, left little doubt with a 6-run ninth inning. Suarez led off the big frame with a home run (1) and later added an RBI-single as the Drive batted around to solidify their victory.
