Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
Behind a six-inning gem from left-hander John Parke (W, 4-1) with a season-high eight strikeouts, the Intimidators (19-10) defeated the Hagerstown Suns 7-3 Saturday night at Intimidators Stadium supported by Atrium Health.
The I's got on the board in the first as Nolan Brown led off the inning with a single up the middle, his second straight night leading off for manager Justin Jirschele. Laz Rivera followed up Brown's single with one of his own through the left side, bringing up Anthony Villa with one out. With the left fielder at the plate, Villa smoked a ball right up the middle off Carlos Acevedo (L, 0-2), scoring both Brown and Rivera to give Parke a two-run cushion.
The Intimidators jumped back in the scoring column in the fourth after 0-1 pitch jumped off the bat of Evan Skoug, hitting his third homer (4) in as many days, while giving Kannapolis a 3-0 lead.
In the fifth, Hagerstown (9-20) erased their goose egg after Kameron Esthay triple on a line drive to left field with two outs, bringing up Alejandro Flores. Down in the count 0-2, Flores doubled down the left field line to score Esthay for the Suns' first run off Parke.
With one out in the sixth, Johan Cruz walked after a seven-pitch at-bat, followed by a Brown single on a soft line drive to left field, putting runners at first and second. With Craig Dedelow at the plate, he singled on a ground ball through the right side, scoring Cruz and sending Brown to third.
Next up, Villa smacked his ninth double of the season to left field, scoring Brown and Dedelow to give I's a 6-1 advantage. After a 1,2,3 inning for Zach Lewis in relief in the seventh, Lewis issued three walks in the top of the eighth inning, giving up two runs to cut the lead to four, now 7-4.
Tyler Johnson (S, 4) came in a closed the door for the Intimidators in the ninth, striking out three guys to give Kannapolis the 7-4 victory.
The Intimidators will host the Hagerstown Suns for the third game of the series at 3:35 p.m. Sunday evening at Intimidators Stadium supported by Atrium Health.
