Drive Blow out Grasshoppers on Sunday

Greensboro, NC - The Greenville Drive dominated every facet of Sunday afternoon's contest against the Greensboro Grasshoppers, and they cruised to a 10-2 victory to earn their second straight win.

The Drive (7-23) never trailed in Sunday's game, as Victor Acosta got the scoring going early with a solo homer off Brandon Miller (0-2) in the top of the first.

Miller was tagged for three more runs in the fourth. After Acosta doubled and Marino Campana reached on a fielder's choice, Zach Sterry grounded a single to center to plate both runners. Two batters later, Kervin Suarez got his big day at the plate started with an RBI single to score Sterry.

Greensboro (15-13) scored single runs in the sixth and eighth innings to get on the board, but the Drive exploded for six runs in the top of the ninth to pull away. Suarez played a key role in the big inning, as he swatted a solo homer to left-center, his first of the year, to lead off, and he came up with an RBI single later in the frame to cap the scoring as well.

In between, the Drive plated runs on RBI hits from Everlouis Lozada and Campana, as well as a Greensboro error that scored two.

In addition to the offensive outburst, Denyi Reyes (3-2) was terrific on the mound for Greenville, as the right-hander held Greensboro to one run over seven innings. He allowed just five hits and one walk with three strikeouts. Lukas Young threw the final two frames for the Drive and earned his first save of the year.

Suarez went 4-5 with three RBI to pace the Greenville offensive attack. Campana continued his torrid stretch at the plate by going 3-5 with two runs, while Acosta collected two hits and scored three runs.

The Drive will go for the series win on Monday morning at 10:45 in Greensboro. Right-hander Nick Duron (0-4, 9.00) will take the mound against Grasshoppers right-hander Ryan Lillie (1-0, 3.95).
