Hagerstown Loses Third Straight on Sunday

Kannapolis, NC - Cole Freeman had three hits, including two doubles, on Sunday afternoon as the Hagerstown Suns fell to the Kannapolis Intimidators 4-3 at Intimidators Stadium. The Suns fall to 9-21 overall and will play the series finale on Monday at 10:05 AM.

The Suns took the lead in the first inning against Kannapolis starter Parker Rigler. Freeman led off the game with a double to left and Luis Garcia singled, driving home Freeman to give Hagerstown a 1-0 lead. Garcia stole second and went to third when Yasel Antuna grounded out but Rigler retired the final two hitters of the inning, stranding Garcia at third.

Kannapolis tied the game against Jackson Tetreault in his sixth start of the season for the Suns in the second. Tate Blackman walked to lead off the inning and Michael Hickman popped out. With one away, Carlos Perez reached on a fielder's choice on a ground ball to short, scoring Blackman as Perez went to second on a pair of throwing errors to tie the game 1-1.

Hagerstown took the lead back in the third against Rigler and Kannapolis. Freeman started the inning off with a double to center and Luis Garcia walked. With two outs, both runners moved up a base on a passed ball and Nick Banks walked to load the bases. Branden Boggetto was hit by a pitch, forcing home Freeman and giving the Suns a 2-1 advantage.

The Intimidators tied the game again in the bottom of the frame during Tetreault's third inning of work. Laz Rivera reached on an error and Craig Dedelow singled to right, moving Rivera to third. Anthony Villa grounded into a double play, scoring Rivera to tie the game, 2-2.

In the fifth Kannapolis chased Tetreault, putting up three runs with the righty and Ben Braymer on the hill for the Suns. With one out Nolan Brown singled to right and Rivera bunted for a single to move Brown to second. A wild pitch moved both runners up, but Tetreault was removed after the second out was recorded. Braymer entered the game and Villa singled to left on the first pitch he saw, scoring both Brown and Rivera to make it a 4-2 game.

The Suns came within a run in the seventh against relievers Luis Ledo. Anderson Franco singled to left, went to second when Nick Banks grounded out, and with one out went to third on a wild pitch. Branden Boggetto walked, but Ledo uncorked another wild pitch that scored Franco making it a 4-3 game. Yosmer Solorzano entered the game from the bullpen and retired the final two hitters of the inning to keep it a one-run game.

Hagerstown got the tying run to third base against Soloranzo. Armond Upshaw walked and went to second when Freeman laid down a sacrifice bunt. Upshaw moved to third when Garcia grounded out to first for the second out of the inning. Antuna was intentionally walked, but Jose Nin replaced Solorzano on the mound and got Franco to fly out to end the inning and the Suns best chance to tie the game.

Tetreault (0-3) took the loss after tossing 4.2 innings pitched with four runs on four hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Braymer threw 3.1 shutout innings of relief, allowing two hits and three walks with two strikeouts.

Notes: Banks extended his hit streak to six games... Garcia has a hit in each of his last six games... Freeman tied a season-high with two doubles... The other Suns player to accomplish the feat was Kameron Esthay on April 20 against Lexington... The Suns left a season-high 14 runners on base... They were 1-for-15 with runners in scoring position... Hagerstown is 1-3 in one-run games... The Suns take on the Kannapolis Intimidators on Sunday for the third game in a four-game series with a 3:35 PM first pitch... Hagerstown will send RHP Tomas Alastre (0-1, 6.95 ERA) to the hill against Intimidators RHP Kade McClure (3-0, 3.18 ERA).
