Lexington Legends News Release
The Lexington Legends are teaming up with LexArts, artists BroCoLoco and Deutsche Bank to bring a new art project to Whitaker Bank Ballpark, and fans are invited to take an active role.
At Legends' home games each night from Saturday July 4 through Thursday July 9, fans can stop by at a table on the concourse to sign one of 8,000 mini-bats that will be used to create the installation. Once a mini-bat is signed, it will be securely placed in a large frame on a wall. The completed project will offer a new and unique way of permanently displaying an image that will be familiar to Legends fans.
"Our fans will be an important part of this project," said Legends President and CEO Andy Shea. "We're really pleased to join with LexArts, BroCoLoco and Deutsche Bank to add a great new attraction to our ballpark and to the city of Lexington. "
Shea, who has been a member of the board of directors at LexArts for the past four years, recalled the success of a mural project at the ballpark.
"Every time I see those murals that my little brothers (in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program) assisted on, it brings sheer joy and happiness," he said. "The ballpark is a great setting for that type of project, and will be for this one as well."
On Thursday, July 9, BroCoLoco - brothers Aaron and Jared Scales, who created the project - will finish glazing and securing the bats to complete the work.
The official unveiling will take place at a news conference, Friday, July 10 at 2 p.m. More details on the news conference will be announced later.
Aaron and Jared Scales began BroCoLoco
when they were living in Washington, D.C., merging their backgrounds in art and architecture into an effort to bring meaningful murals, urban art and architectural designs into communities that reflect the culture and story of a place. They have worked with developers, businesses and neighborhoods to implement well-crafted, community-focused projects from the East Coast to Europe.
LexArts is a cultural development, advocacy and fund raising organization for greater Lexington. It provides a wide range of programs and services designed to integrate the arts into daily life.
Game time each night is 7:05 p.m. except for a 6:05 p.m. start on Sunday, July 5. For Legends ticket information, call 859-422-7867 or visit www.lexingtonlegends.com.
