Legends Fall Short in Second Half against Canton

RENO, NV, (Jan. 7, 2014) - The Texas Legends, presented by Veracruz (visit Veracruz.mx), faced the Canton Charge in their first match of the NBA Development League Showcase. The two teams met for the first time this season, and Canton came away with the win 112-94.

The two teams got off to a hot start, going back and forth for the lead through the first quarter. Canton took the advantage 33-27 at the buzzer, but the Legends used a strong defensive attack and hot shooting to squash it 34-16 in the second. Texas hit four triple-point plays leading up to the buzzer to lead 61-49 going into the third, but the shooting went cold in the second half. After 61 points in the first, the team combined for only 33 in the final two quarters. Canton shot 49.4% over the Legends' 42.1%, and outrebounded the Legends 52-25.

Devin Ebanks had a game-high 27 points and 6 rebounds, and Melvin Ely added 24 points and 5 rebounds. Mickey McConnell led the game in assists with 10. Gilbert Brown was Canton's leading scorer adding 24 points and 8 assists, while Shane Edwards was close behind with the game's only double-double of 23 points and 13 boards.

The Legends will play their long-awaited resumption game against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants tonight at 9pm CT. The team returns home Jan 11 to host the Rio Grande Valley Vipers at 7pm on Veracruz Court. For tickets or information call 214-469-0822 or visit www.TexLegends.com.
