Shabazz Muhammad Leads Iowa to Victory over Bakersfield at Showcase

RENO, NEV., Jan. 7, 2014 - The Iowa Energy defeated the Bakersfield Jam by a score of 133-121 in day three of the NBA D-League Showcase presented by Samsung Galaxy.
Shabazz Muhammad was assigned by the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday and made his NBA D-League debut, scoring a game-high 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting to go along with seven rebounds and two assists.
Muhammad was one of seven Iowa players to register in double-figures. Reigning NBA D-League Player of the Month, Othyus Jeffers had 19 points, six rebounds and five assists. Marquis Teague tallied 15 points and nine assists and Larry Owens and Chris Allen added 19 points apiece in the win.
Bakersfield got off to a strong start and took an 8-0 lead early in the first-quarter. Ike Diogu continued to impress here in Reno and followed up his 22-point, 14-rebound effort with 20 points and six rebounds. His 18 points in the first-half boosted the Jam early on.
Iowa used a 42-point second quarter and shot .500 from the field on 27-of-54 shooting in the first-half to help withstand the hot start by Bakersfield. They finished the day shooting .490 (49-for-100).
Bakersfield would recapture the lead in the third quarter on an 3-pointer by James Nunnally but that would be their last lead of the game as a 19-6 Iowa run would then ensue to give the Energy 101-82 lead with 1:56 remaining in the third-quarter. The run was part of a 44-point effort in the stanza.
With a 107-88 lead entering the fourth-quarter, Iowa continued to maintain a steady lead through the final buzzer.
Ian Clark led the Jam with 23 points, five rebounds and four assists. Rudy Gobert recorded a double-double with 12 rebounds and 11 points.
Iowa will play in the showcase finale versus the Springfield Armor at 3:30 P.M. on Thursday. Bakersfield split their slate in Reno and will return to action when they take on the Reno Bighorns on Friday.
