Marshon Brooks Leads Red Claws over Toros at Showcase

January 7, 2014 - NBA G League (G League) News Release

RENO, NEV., Jan. 7, 2014 - MarShon Brooks powered the Maine Red Claws in the second half to a 118-92 victory over the Austin Toros at the NBA D-League Showcase presented by Samsung Galaxy.

Brooks was re-acquired by the Boston Celtics, the team that originally drafted him with the 25th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, as part of the trade that sent Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry to the Brooklyn Nets.

The Celtics assigned Brooks to the Red Claws on January 1st and he has been the team's leading scorer in all four of his NBA D-League appearances. He wasted no time making his presence felt here in Reno as he scored a team-high 24 points on 11-of-24 shooting to go along with eight rebounds and six assists.

Frank Gaines hit a 3-pointer to put Maine ahead 15-14 in the first quarter and they would not relinquish the lead the rest of the night. They took a 51-45 lead into the locker room.

The Red Claws would put the game out reach in the second-half behind Brooks who scored 16 points in the third-quarter, including the final nine points of the stanza.

Nando De Colo did his part to keep Austin in the game and counter the burst by Brooks, scoring 15-of-26 third-quarter points for the Toros. The San Antonio Spurs' assignee recorded 18 points, six rebounds and four assists.

Flip Murray scored a game-high 29 points on 8-of-17 shooting to go along with five rebounds and two steals. He nailed 10-of-11 attempts from the free throw line.

The efforts from De Colo and Murray were not enough to contain a Red Claws team that shot .483 on 43-of-89 from the field and saw five players score in double-figures. Abdul Gaddy was the facilitator of the offense and compiled a career-high 13 assists in the win.

Austin has concluded their showcase schedule and will head to Fort Wayne to take on the Mad Ants Friday at 7:30 P.M. EST. Maine will be back in action tomorrow versus the Rio Grande Valley Vipers at 3:40 P.M. EST.
