NBA D-League Update
January 7, 2014 - NBA G League (G League) News Release
STATING THEIR (SHOW) CASE
A LOOK AT DAY TWO IN RENO:
Idaho 93, Canton 88: Pierre Jackson was at it again, going off for 33 points despite being matched up against strong defenders in Jorge Gutierrez and Gilbert Brown. Jackson scored 11 of the Stampede's last 13 points, including a teardrop three-pointer to give the team an 85-83 lead with just over a minute remaining. Jackson went 5-for-13 from downtown, hitting his first three attempts from distance, but he also showed an uncanny ability to finish in traffic. He wasn't just a scorer, however, as he finished with a team-high eight assists, one shy of his season high. More
Fort Wayne 101, Santa Cruz 97: Three NBA players were on assignment for Fort Wayne, but it was Mr. Mad Ant himself, Ron Howard, who was the team's best player on the floor. Despite taking a spill and missing some of the second half while he got checked out, Howard relentlessly attacked the basket and shot 19 free throws, making 16, on the afternoon. Even more important, all but four of the free throws came in the second half when Fort Wayne was mounting its rally. In all, he finished with a game-high 28 points on just 15 shots. Fittingly, his two free throws with 0.9 seconds left sealed the victory for Fort Wayne. More
Austin 114, Erie 103: He got off to a slow start, but Spurs assignee Malcolm Thomas, who began the season as our No. 1 overall prospect, helped Austin secure the win down the stretch. In the fourth quarter, Thomas had six points, seven rebounds and two assists. In fact, only four of his 20 points and five of his game-high 14 rebounds came in the first half. For the game, he shot 9-for-13 from the floor and also added six assists. More
Los Angeles 116, Sioux Falls 109: L.A. rolled in a lineup stacked with three NBA veterans, and it showed in the way they took care of business and spread the wealth on offense. So while it may not appear so in the box score, Jamario Moon stood out the most, looking very much like the player who was a quality NBA bench option just a few years ago. Even better, he still looked very much like the player who, at a spry 33, participated in the 2008 Dunk Contest. It added up to 14 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals. More
Prospect Report
Dominic McGuire, Santa Cruz Warriors -- McGuire's stat line from yesterday's game against Fort Wayne was a good illustration of why the former second-round pick in 2007 has been able to hang around the NBA for six seasons, despite never becoming a steady rotation player on a long-term contract. McGuire finished with four points on 1-for-10 shooting from the field. He also snatched 12 rebounds (four offensive), while adding three assists, a steal and a block. McGuire has never been all that adept at putting the ball in the hoop, dating back to his collegiate days, but his athleticism, defense and overall ability to affect a game without scoring has always been highly regarded by coaches and NBA decision makers. McGuire appeared in 64 games with the Golden State Warriors in 2011-12, and was a favorite of Mark Jackson, which probably has something to do with why Santa Cruz added him to the roster last week. Golden State may also have to contend with 29 other teams which have representatives in Reno, getting a close look at McGuire, who has tangible NBA experience and would be able to get up to speed quickly.
