Legends Even Wild Race for Eighth Playoff Spot with Win Over Vipers

Frisco, TX (March 27, 2011) - The Texas Legends won their second straight game and earned an important victory over the previously Western Conference leading Rio Grande Valley Vipers 109-97 on Sunday afternoon at HP Court inside Dr Pepper Arena.
The win evens the Legends up with Fort Wayne and Idaho for the eighth and final playoff spot, while it puts them a game and a half up on Austin.
With the game tied at 17 late in the first quarter, the Legends went on an 8-0 run to take the lead and went into the second on top 28-23. Richard Roby kept the game close in the early going for Rio Grande Valley with 12 points in the opening period.
An 8-0 run by the Vipers in the second quarter gave them a one-point lead, which did not last long. Texas responded with a 13-2 sprint to retake the advantage 47-37. The Legends would go on to take a 53-45 lead into halftime.
Joe Alexander paced Texas in the first half with 11 points, while Roby finished the half with 15 points for Rio Grande Valley.
The Legends scored the first six points of the second half to stretch their lead to 14 and Texas would extend their lead to as many as 21 points in the third quarter.
Down 89-70 in the fourth quarter, the Vipers used a 15-5 run to cut the deficit to nine. However, that would be as close as Rio Grande Valley would get as the Legends were able to secure their second straight victory.
Alexander led the way for Texas with his 21st double-double of the season, pouring in 23 points and adding ten rebounds.
Roby knocked in a game-high 27 points in the loss for the Vipers.
Texas improved to 22-25 on the year with the win, as Rio Grande Valley dropped to 31-17.
The Legends will play the final regular season home game of their inaugural season on Wednesday night as they host the Springfield Armor at 7:00 PM.
