December 27, 2013 - NBA G League (G League)
Texas Legends News Release
BOISE, ID - The Texas Legends, presented by Veracruz (visit Veracruz.mx), fought through four quarters and two extra periods but fell short in the final seconds, losing to the Idaho Stampede 126-129.
Tonight's matchup saw the league's top two prospects go head to head in Texas' Devin Ebanks and Idaho's Pierre Jackson. Ebanks struggled with his shooting going 6-19 on the night, but led the Legends in rebounds grabbing 10 boards on the defensive end alone. The Legends held the advantage at each of the first three buzzers, but the Stampede came alive in the fourth outscoring Texas 38-32 and tying up the game at 118. After 3 minutes of overtime, the two teams were knotted up once again at 120-all forcing a second extra period. Melvin Ely hit back-to-back free throws to take the Legends up 126-125, but Jackson answered immediately with a go-ahead jumper at 11 seconds. An untimely turnover led to extra foul shots by Richard Howell to seal the Idaho victory. While the Legends forced 20 turnovers from the Stampede, they were out-rebounded 62-36 on the night falling short 126-129 after 54 minutes of play.
Mickey McConnell came off the bench to lead the Legends with a season-high 31 points, while also adding 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals. Ebanks boasted the Legends' only double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds, but teammate Sammy Yeager stole the hot shooting award going 5-5 on the night, 4-4 from long distance. Jackson led the Stampede with a game-high 41 points. Richard Howell and Dee Bost each posted double-doubles for Idaho with Bost grabbing 19 points and 16 rebounds while Howell added 12 points and 16 rebounds.
The two teams will rematch tomorrow night in Boise for the 2nd of 4 matchups this season. The Legends return home Jan 11 to host the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. For tickets or information call 214-469-0822 or visit www.TexLegends.com.
