DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Energy defeated the Maine Red Claws 110-107 on Friday Night at Wells Fargo Arena.
The two teams battled back and forth in the first quarter, and Maine led 27-25 after one. Chicago Bulls assignee Marquis Teague had 9 points in the first.
The second quarter was the same story, as the two teams played tight. Othyus Jeffers gave Iowa the lead 50-49 before Maine's Abdul Gaddy hit a half court buzzer beater to give Maine the 52-50 halftime lead.
Maine started to pull away in the third, outscoring Iowa 37-30 and took an 89-80 lead into the final quarter. Jeffers had 14 of his game high 29 points in the third.
The Energy battled back and the two teams traded the lead. Jarvis Varnado hit a fast break dunk and completed the three point play to give Iowa a 97-96 lead early on in the fourth. After a Varnado free throw to give Iowa the 110-107 lead, Maine's Frank Gaines missed a corner three at the buzzer. Iowa outscored Maine 30-18 in the final quarter.
Maine was led by Chris Wright and Gaines, who each had 26 points. Damen Bell-Holter had 13 points and 10 boards off the bench. Ty Walker also had a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards. Gaines added 7 steals for Maine.
Iowa was led by Jeffers, who had 29 points, 15 boards, and 8 steals. Teague finished with 21 points and 6 assists. Varnado had 16 points and 18 boards.
The two teams will play again tomorrow night at 7 PM. The first 2,000 fans through the doors will receive a High Voltage Dance team poster, presented by Sun Seekers Tan Spa and Vorland Photography.
Saturday is also college night. Bring your college IDs to the Wells Fargo Arena box office for $5 tickets.
