Texas Legends News Release
RENO, NEV., Jan. 10, 2012 - Even his misses led to baskets.
Booker Woodfox had made 10 of his 12 shots to this point, helping the Texas Legends build a double-digit fourth quarter lead over the Tulsa 66ers on the second day of the 2012 NBA D-League Showcase.
With the shot clock winding down, Woodfox drove right, launched an off-balance 20-footer that was short, but controlled in the air by teammate Dominique Johnson and laid in for two points.
It was that kind of night for Woodfox, who finished with 22 points on 10-for-14 shooting, as the Legends posted a 94-86 victory. Chris Roberts added 13 points and eight rebounds, while Sean Williams, on assignment from the Dallas Mavericks, had 10 points and nine rebounds for Texas.
Williams was only credited with two blocks for the game, which seemed low based on how many shots he altered or contested. Selected by the New Jersey Nets in the first round (17th overall) of the 2007 NBA Draft, Williams had a strong start to his NBA career, before falling out of favor in New Jersey. He's been playing on the fringes of the NBA for the last few seasons, but still has one very translatable NBA skill: he can really block shots.
Dwight Buycks led Tulsa (9-8) with 21 points. Jerome Dyson added 20 points, while Larry Owens finished with 18 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Owens is hoping for a repeat performance of 2011, when he turned a solid showing in the NBA D-League Showcase into a call-up with the San Antonio Spurs a week later. Owens was also called-up by the Washington Wizards later in the season.
Not the sexiest prospect, Owens does a little bit of everything - defends, runs the floor and can make a medium-range jumpshot. When NBA teams are filling out rosters, oftentimes they look for blend players of Owens' ilk.
Texas (6-12) is back in action tomorrow against Sioux Falls. Tulsa plays again Thursday against Fort Wayne.
