Los Angeles D-Fenders' Malcolm Thomas Signs with San Antonio Spurs

NEW YORK, Jan. 11, 2012 ? The San Antonio Spurs today signed forward Malcolm Thomas of the Los Angeles D-Fenders for the 13th GATORADE Call-Up of the 2011-12 NBA Development League Season. With the signing, which came during the 2012 NBA D-League Showcase in Reno, Nev., the number of current NBA players with NBA D-League experience increases to 95.

In six games (two starts) with the D-Fenders this season, Thomas (6-9, 225) averaged 14.3 points and 8.3 rebounds. He scored a season-high 19 points to go with nine rebounds and four blocks in a 117-112 road win over the Erie BayHawks.

Undrafted in 2011, Thomas was in training camp with the Los Angeles Lakers before being waived on Dec.22, 2011 and joining the D-Fenders.

A two-time All-Mountain West Conference Second Team selection, Thomas was named to the All-Mountain West Defensive Team during his senior season at San Diego State after finishing second in the conference in rebounding and blocks. He finished his career as the school's second-leading all-time shot blocker.

Thomas is expected to join the Spurs today and will be available when the team hosts the Houston Rockets tonight.
