Bakersfield Bests Stampede at 2012 NBA D-League Showcase

RENO, NEV., Jan. 11, 2012 - Quick geography exercise.

Juan Pattillo grew up in Las Vegas, located at the southern tip of Nevada. He spent two seasons at the College of Southern Idaho, before moving onto to Oklahoma, then finishing his career at Western Kentucky. Today, he was in Reno, situated at the westernmost point of Nevada, playing for the Bakersfield Jam against the Idaho Stampede.

Got all that?

Pattillo felt right at home at the 2012 NBA D-League Showcase, scoring a game-high 33 points as the Jam (10-8) defeated the Stampede, 113-98. He shot 9-for-13 from the field, 15-for-16 from the free throw line, and added nine rebounds.

Jeremy Wise added 16 points for the Jam, while Adam Koch had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Antoine Walker led the Stampede with 18 points and eight rebounds. Tony Bobbitt finished with 17 points, making 4-of-8 from behind the arc.

At one point during the contest, the Stampede (7-11) trotted out a lineup of the 35-year-old Walker, Bobbitt (32) and newly-signed Mikki Moore (36). Moore, a 12-year NBA veteran who last played in the league during the 2009-10 season with Golden State, scored nine points and grabbed three rebounds.

With Erie's Mike James signing today with the Chicago Bulls, it's easy to see why many veterans have taken to the NBA D-League in the hopes of earning another NBA contract.

It was a rough game for Idaho's Armon Johnson, who shot 1-for-13 from the field and scored only four points. On assignment from the Portland Trail Blazers, Johnson is working on striking a balance between scoring and distributing. He did finish with a team-high seven assists.
