
Left Wing Valeev Reassigned from Worcester (AHL) by St. Louis (NHL)

Peoria, Ill. (March 24, 2004) â Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie of the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL announced today that third-year left wing Igor Valeev have been reassigned from the team's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate â the Worcester IceCats â by their NHL parent club, the St. Louis Blues.
Valeev â a 6-foot, 210-pound native of Snezhensk, Russia â notched two points (1g, 1a) and 24 penalty minutes (PIM) in six games during a conditioning assignment with the Rivermen from December 11-December 21. In 31 games with Worcester this season, he collected four points (1g, 3a) and 68 PIM. He led the IceCats during his sophomore campaign (2002-2003) with 153 PIM, while posting 18 points (6g, 12a) in 72 games.
The 23-year-old Valeev, selected by St. Louis in the fourth round (122nd overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, enjoyed a three-year Major Junior "A" hockey career in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and the WHL. He registered Major Junior "A" bests in goals (17), assists (61), points (78) and PIM (175) with the North Bay Centennials in 2000-2001, leading North Bay in PIM and assists and ranking second in points.
The Rivermen battle the Cincinnati Cyclones tonight on the road in the 13th and final meeting between the clubs this season. Game time is 6:30 p.m. at U.S. Bank Arena. The Rivermen host the archrival Dayton Bombers on Friday, March 26 and Saturday, March 27 to open the final home weekend of the 2003-2004 regular season. Game times are 7:00 p.m. at Carver Arena. On Friday, it is another Coca-Cola Finally Friday. Fans receive a 2-for-1 Upper Bowl admission when they present a Cherry Coke or Vanilla Coke can at the Carver Arena Box Office. The team will also wear special 1950's-style jerseys, sponsored by the Maid-Rite 50's Diner in the Metro Centre, to be auctioned off after the game. On Saturday, it is the Ashley Furniture/UFS/Ralph Rashid Fan Appreciation Night. More than $75,000 in prizes will be given away. On Sunday, March 28, the Rivermen face off against the archrival Toledo Storm for the 12th and final time this season. Game time is 3:00 p.m. at Carver Arena. It is the final Journal Star/Insight Media Family Day. Kids 12 and Under receive a $2 Upper Bowl admission. The first 1,000 Kids Meals â $2.50 each â contain a Trevor Baker player card. The team's Sunday Gold jerseys will be auctioned off following the game as well.
