CHECKERS ICE CHIPS - Part of the late-season player personnel
decisions made by Checkers Head Coach and General Manager Derek
Wilkinson will focus on building next season's team. One such move
was Charlotte's acquisition last week of rookie defenseman Clay
Plume who was signed out of junior hockey. Plume played his final
season of junior hockey for the Prince George Cougars of the Western
Hockey League. "Plume was highly recommended by my former teammate
with the Cleveland Lumberjacks and the Head Coach of Prince George, Lane
Lambert," commented Wilkinson. "Clay is a solid, two-way
defenseman who has been impressive in his first three games with us."
While splitting this past season of junior hockey between Prince
George and Lethbridge, Plume played in 69 games with 12 goals, 20 assists
for 32 points with 66 points.
