Leclerc Hooked Early in Frisco Loss

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (September 1, 2015) - The Corpus Christi Hooks jumped ahead early thanks to a six-run second inning and defeated the Frisco RoughRiders, 10-2, in the series opener on Tuesday night at Whataburger Field. J.T. Wise homered for Frisco and Luis Mendez collected three base hits in the loss.

With a 1-0 lead, Corpus Christi plated six Hooks in the second inning. Colin Moran scored two with a single and crossed the plate on a wild pitch. Later in the frame, Jon Kemmer laced a RBI-triple, Jack Mayfield and Conrad Gregor followed with run-scoring base knocks to give Corpus Christi the 7-0 advantage.

Jose Leclerc (6-7) was pulled after only 1 2/3 innings. The right-hander allowed seven runs on eight hits and four walks in the losing effort. Chad James settled down the Hooks' offense over 3 1/3 innings. The lefty gave up only two hits and one walk while striking out four in the scoreless performance.

Kyle Westwood (10-7) was stellar in his start for the Hooks. The right-hander earned his 10th win with seven scoreless innings of work. He struck out five and allowed five hits.

Corpus Christi added to their lead in the sixth. Kemmer led off the frame with a single and scored off the bat of Alfredo Gonzalez. Chan Moon followed with a run-scoring double to put the Hooks on top 9-0. In the seventh, A.J. Reed crushed a home run over the right field wall to make it a 10-0 game. Reed leads Minor League Baseball with 34 homers this year.

Wise knocked his sixth Double-A homer of the season in the eighth. The two-run blast made it a 10-2 game. Albert Minnis threw the final two frames for Corpus Christi to finish off the Hooks' win.

LHP Chad Bell returns to the mound for Frisco on Wednesday night. The lefty tossed eight scoreless frames in his last start. Corpus Christi counters with RHP Francis Marte in the 7:05 contest.
