Edwar Cabrera and David Martinez Earn Promotion to Triple-A

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (SEPTEMBER 1, 2015) - The Texas Rangers announced on Tuesday that LHP Edwar Cabrera and RHP David Martinez were promoted to Triple-A Round Rock. In corresponding roster moves, RHP Adam Quintana and RHP John Werner were assigned to Frisco from Class-A Hickory.

Cabrera, 27, pitched in three games for the Triple-A Express before joining the Riders' pitching staff in May. In 27 games, including seven starts, Cabrera went 4-2 with a 3.68 ERA and struck out 51 hitters with just 17 walks. The seven-year pro has pitched in 17 games at the Triple-A level between his time in the Rockies' and Rangers' farm systems. In 2012, the southpaw made two starts for the Rockies, and lost both decisions. The four-time minor league all-star pitched for the World Team in the 2012 Futures Game. Cabrera owns a career 37-32 record with a 3.26 ERA.

Martinez, 28, also began the 2015 campaign with the Express prior to joining Frisco in May. The 11-year professional pitched in seven big league contests for the Astros between 2013-14. Playing in his first season with the Rangers organization, Martinez recorded 22 saves in 40 appearances and went 3-5 with a 2.84 ERA, 41 strikeouts and 14 walks for the RoughRiders. His 22 saves rank third- best in Frisco's franchise history. Martinez was both a Mid-Season and Post-Season Texas League All-Star this season, and he held the same honors in 2013 as a member of the Corpus Christi Hooks. The Venezuelan was named the Texas League Pitcher of the Year in 2013. The right-hander has 31 Triple-A appearances across three seasons going 5-8 with a 5.85 ERA.

Quintana, 23, signed a minor league free agent contract with the Rangers on August 3. The right-hander has spent the majority of 2015 with the Rangers' rookie team for the Arizona League in Surprise, Arizona. Including one appearance with Class-A Hickory, Quintana has pitched in seven games and has a 2-1 record with one save. He has thrown 18 innings and has allowed 11 hits. Quintana has struck out 26 while allowing five walks and he's holding opposing batters to just a .177 batting average. Quintana, who was the Heart of America Athletic Conference's 2015 Pitcher of the Year, went 8-0 in his only season at Peru State (Nebraska), and became the fourth Bobcat in six years to either sign or be drafted by a Major League team.

Werner, 23, signed a minor league contract with the Rangers on June 15 after Texas drafted him in the 32nd round this year. Werner is 0-6 with a 3.14 ERA in 13 games this season between the AZL Rangers and Class-A Hickory. In 43 IP, he's struck out 55 and walked just 14 batters. The right-hander was the fifth-ever St. Catherine College Patriot to be selected in the MLB draft. He was named the 2015 Mid-South Conference Pitcher of the Year & won the weekly honor five times in his final season with the Patriots. Werner helped SCC to a 38-17 record and a berth in the NAIA National Tournament going 9-2 with a 1.48 ERA and ranked fifth in the NAIA with a .168 opponents' average, ninth with 111 strikeouts and tenth in ERA.

Frisco's roster remains at the Texas League limit of 25 active players with today's roster moves.
