League Suspends Finch for Two Games
February 22, 2011 - NBA G League (G League)
Rio Grande Valley Vipers News Release
NEW YORK - The NBA Development League announced today that Rio Grande Valley Vipers head coach Chris Finch has been suspended for two games without pay and fined for failing to leave the court in a timely manner following his ejection and for verbal abuse of officials following the Vipers' 111-99 loss to the Austin Toros on February 16. The suspension will begin immediately and cover Rio Grande Valley's games at Texas tonight and at Maine on Thursday.
"Coach Finch is a very passionate individual and he takes his job of winning games and developing players very seriously. We disagree with the decision of the league. Chris has always acted in a professional, reasonable and justifiable manner in representing the team. He is a standup individual both on and off the court, where he has been an active and approachable member of the community since he arrived. He is one of the best coaches in the league. We stand by our coach," Vipers President Bert Garcia said.
Vipers assistant coach Paul Mokeski will serve as acting head coach for the next two games. Mokeski has previous head coaching experience with the Hartford Hellcats of the Continental Basketball Association (1993-through-1995) and the Connecticut Skyhawks of the United States Basketball League (1996). He was also the head coach of the Dallas Mavericks during the 2005 Long Beach Summer League tournament.
