New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

HARRISBURG, PA - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats rode a superb performance by starting pitcher Casey Lawrence to a 7-1 win against the Harrisburg Senators Tuesday night in front of 3,859 fans at Metro Bank Park.

The Fisher Cats (50-43) secured a series victory behind the right arm of Lawrence (W, 10-8), who had a perfect game broken up in the seventh inning by Harrisburg batter Shawn Pleffner. The Senators (48-49) lost their third straight, mustering only four hits in the game and committing two errors in the field. Lawrence became the sixth Fisher Cat to earn 10 wins in a season, and tied Deck McGuire for the franchise lead with his 19th career win in a New Hampshire uniform.

The Fisher Cats drew first blood in the top of the second against Harrisburg starter Dakota Bacus (L, 5-3). Matt Newman drew a one-out walk and moved to third on a double by Emilio Guerrero. Ian Parmley scored Newman with a soft ground-out to shortstop Wilmer Difo, advancing Guerrero to third. Jorge Flores was able to work a walk, and swiped second to put himself in scoring position. Roman Fields hit a bouncer to short that Difo misplayed, allowing Guerrero and Flores to speed home, making it 3-0 in favor of the visitors.

New Hampshire poured it on in the third inning, as K.C. Hobson and Jack Murphy cracked back-to-back one-out singles to put runners at the corners. With Newman at the dish, Bacus fired a fastball that catcher Pedro Severino mishandled, allowing Hobson to score from third and run the New Hampshire lead to 4-0.

The Fisher Cats kept on scoring in the top of the fourth. Parmley led off with a bunt single, and advanced to second on a ground-out to third by Flores. Fields singled to right field, and Parmley bolted for home when Drew Vettleson bobbled the ball. Shane Opitz rocked a double to left field to move Fields to third base, and Kevin Nolan lofted a sacrifice fly to center, extending New Hampshire's edge to 6-0.

New Hampshire added a run in the top of the seventh against Harrisburg reliever Wander Suero. Murphy drew a leadoff walk, and Newman doubled him to third base. With one out, Parmley cracked a single to left, scoring Murphy to make it a 7-0 lead.

Lawrence had retired the first 18 batters he'd faced coming into the sixth inning. He got Difo to fly to Newman in left field, but Pleffner lined a single to center, breaking up the perfect game and the no-hitter. In the eighth, Lawrence would surrender the shutout as well, allowing Matt Skole to come home on Derrick Robinson's RBI single to trim the New Hampshire lead to 7-1.

Lawrence allowed one run on four hits over eight innings for the win, striking out three. Jimmy Cordero pitched a perfect ninth inning with two strikeouts to end the game.

The Fisher Cats will go for the sweep Wednesday afternoon at Metro Bank Park, with righty Taylor Cole starting for New Hampshire against Harrisburg lefty Richard Bleier. Game time is 6:00 p.m. and coverage with Ben Gellman begins at 11:45 a.m. on 610 AM WGIR and online at www.nhfishercats.com.
