
Latimore's double completes Power comeback

Charleston, WV (July 25, 2009) - The West Virginia Power scored four times in the final two frames of Saturday night's game against the Savannah Sand Gnats at Appalachian Power Park to come from behind and defeat the Sand Gnats 6-5 on Quincy Latimore's walk off RBI double in the bottom of the ninth inning.
The Sand Gnats scored first for the fourth night in a row. They got their first two runs in the top of the first inning on Josh Satin's fifth homerun of the season. Quincy Latimore's first of three hits on the night was a triple in the bottom of the second and he scored on Jeremy Farrell's groundout. Jefry Marte began the fourth inning with a double and scored Savannah's third run of the game on Imbewer Alvarez's RBI single.
Starling Marte's sacrifice fly scored Bobby Spain in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull the Power back within a run. Jefry Marte struck for the Sand Gnats again in the top of the eighth inning on a two-run homer to give the Sand Gnats their largest lead of the night.
West Virginia began their comeback in the bottom of the eighth inning. Latimore belted his second triple of the night to plate Tony Sanchez and scored later in the inning when Danny Bomback was hit by Rhiner Cruz's 1-2 pitch with the bases loaded. Greg Picart then walked with the bases loaded to tie the game at 5-5. Robbie Grossman started the ninth inning with a walk and moved to second on Kyle Morgan's base hit before Latimore drove him home on a double to right center field.
Ryan Kelly (3-2) allowed a pair of runs on four hits and fanned four over three innings to get the victory. John Church (0-1) surrendered the game winning double in the ninth inning and was tagged with the loss. Yoffri Martinez also offered an inning and a third of scoreless relief for the Power. It was the first time West Virginia won on back-to-back nights in two weeks.
West Virginia improved to 41-56 overall, and 14-13 in the second half after the win, while the Sand Gnats fell to 51-48 overall and 16-13 in the second half after the loss. Quincy Latimore paced the Power with his 3-for-5 performance, including a pair of triples, a double two runs and two RBI. He has hit safely in his last ten games. Jeremy Farrell walked in his final plate appearance to extend his on base streak to 26 games. Danny Bomback singled in the seventh inning to extend his hitting streak to seven games. Starling Marte's singled twice to extend his hitting streak to 11 games and he has reached in 22 straight games. Greg Picart reached twice and has reached safely in 13 straight games. Tony Sanchez reached twice, extending his on base streak to 15 games.
West Virginia will begin a four game series against the Charleston Riverdogs at Appalachian Power Park on Sunday evening. The Power will start right hander Rafael De Los Santos (0-3, 6.46) and the Riverdogs will counter with left hander Manny Banuelos (8-4, 2.34). The first pitch will be delivered at 5:05 PM.
