Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, NC -The Intimidators could not finish off a sweep of Augusta on Saturday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium, instead dropping a lopsided 11-4 decision to the GreenJackets.

Augusta pounded out 18 hits in the contest, the most allowed by the Intimidators pitching staff this season. Meanwhile, after an early offensive surge, Kannapolis did not manage a hit after the third inning.

The Intimidators did rally from a three-run deficit early to tie the game, 4-4, but Augusta scored seven unanswered runs against the Kannapolis bullpen for the win. Kevin Asselin (2-3) took the loss, allowing three runs, two earned, in three innings.

Starter James Albury struggled in his Intimidators debut, giving up four runs in three innings on seven hits. The Kannapolis offense did bail him out, scoring three runs in the bottom of the third to even the game. Luis Sierra drove in a pair on a base hit off of Augusta starter Mike Loree (7-6).

Eight of the nine Augusta starters had at least one hit, with Vladimir Frias leading the charge with four knocks in five at-bats. Charlie Culberson was the lone starter without a hit, though he only had three opportunities after he was ejected in the top of the fourth for arguing balls and strikes.

Leroy Hunt did not factor in the decision despite allowing four runs in two innings of relief. Dan Albritton pitched for the second straight day, again keeping Augusta off the board.

The Intimidators next welcome in the Rome Braves on Sunday, as Kannapolis will send rehabbing Major Leaguer Freddy Garcia to the mound.
