Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, NC - The Intimidators will welcome in yet another Major Leaguer this weekend, as two-time All-Star Freddy Garcia will join Kannapolis on Sunday to make a rehab start. Garcia is scheduled to take the mound for Sunday's 5:05 p.m. game with the Rome Braves at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium.
Garcia, 33, has spent time with six different clubs over the course of his 16-year professional career, but is best known for his time with the White Sox. The right-hander was the starter of the clinching Game 4 of the 2005 World Series, going seven shutout innings to help the South Siders to the title.
Garcia has won 118 Major League games in his career, the second most amongst Venezuelan pitchers behind just Johan Santana (120). He was selected to the AL All-Star Team in 2001 and 2002 while a member of the Seattle Mariners.
Garcia becomes the third rehabbing Major Leaguer to join up with the Intimidators this season, though he will be the first to appear in Kannapolis. Carlos Quentin and Bartolo Colon spent time with the Intimidators while Kannapolis was in Savannah earlier this month.
