Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (JUNE 26, 2011) - Tyler Saladino and Ian Gac connected on eighth-inning home runs to tie the game and take the lead in Winston-Salem's 5-3 win over Lynchburg on Sunday evening at BB&T Ballpark. The Dash have won three of four games to open up the second half and was the team's 11th win in its last at-bat this season.

Dash starter Joe Serafin weaved in and out of trouble through the first three innings. He allowed base runners to move into scoring position in each of those frames. The Hillcats (1-3, 31-43) didn't manage a run in the first or second but did hit the scoreboard in the third. Shawn McGill reached on an infield single and moved to second when Marcus Lemon singled. L.V. Ware sacrificed the runners into scoring position. Andrelton Simmons followed with a sac fly to score McGill, and then Phil Gosselin hit an infield single to score Lemon.

Winston (3-1, 35-39) started to chip away when Kyle Colligan led off the bottom of the third with a home run beyond the left field fence to halve the deficit.

In the fourth, Jose Martinez started the inning with a double and came around to score when Andy Wilkins hit a bloop-single into shallow left field. That tied the score at two.

With the help of a fielding mistake, Lynchburg took the advantage back in the sixth. Keenan Wiley started the inning with a double, but was tagged out at third when Joey Terdoslavich reached on a fielder's choice bunt. Joe Leonard then hit a ground ball to short that Saladino fielded and threw to second, but Daniel Wagner took his foot off the bag too soon and was charged with the error. That put runners at first and second, and McGill singled home Terdoslavich to put the Hillcats up 3-2.

Again the Dash were forced to come back, and again they answered the bell. Winston rallied to load the bases in the sixth before the reliever duo of Andrew Wilson and Matt Crim stifled the offense.

Matt Frevert took the mound in the eighth and promptly surrendered a home run to Saladino, tying the game. Wagner then walked and Jose Martinez struck out on a failed bunt attempt. Ian Gac followed, and blasted his 19th long ball of the season to put the Dash up 5-3.

Taylor Thompson came in to close out the ballgame, and faced the minimum to earn his eighth save of the season. Serafin threw a quality start in 6.2 innings but did not factor into the decision. The lefty gave up three runs (two earned) on nine hits and struck out two. Brandon Kloess (2-2) earned the win in relief after 1.1 scoreless frames. Frevert (1-3) was hit with a blown save and a loss after giving up three runs in the eighth.

The come-from-behind win was Winston's first in almost a month. The last one was against Potomac on May 31.

Winston-Salem and Lynchburg continue their three-game series on Monday night at BB&T Ballpark. RHP Andre Rienzo (1-3, 3.68) will start for the Dash against LHP Dimasther Delgado (4-4, 4.80)
