Late Arriving Offense Provides Plenty

June 26, 2011 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release

Wilmington's Tyler Sample was perfect through five innings on Sunday before the Keys' bats came to life. Frederick scored two runs on two hits in the sixth inning and then DH Adam Donachie hit a three-run shot in the seventh that sealed the victory for Frederick. RHP Bobby Bundy tossed a gem en route to his seventh win of the season. Following the 6-2 victory over the Blue Rocks, the Keys improved to 5-0 against Wilmington at Harry Grove Stadium in 2011.

The first run of the series crossed home plate in the third inning via a wild pitch. 2B Gerard Hall reached on a one-out walk. Hall then stole second base and advanced to third on Whit Merrifield fly out to center field. With two outs in the inning, DH Carlo Testa did not need to put his bat on the ball as Hall scampered home on wild pitch by Bobby Bundy.

The Blue Rocks' one-run advantage held until the bottom of the sixth inning. Adam Donachie led off the inning for Frederick. Donachie broke up the Sample perfect game when he flared a single into left. 3B Dale Mollenhauer followed Donachie with a double down the right field line. C Brian Ward brought home the first Key run of the night with a RBI groundout to first. Frederick then took the lead when RF Steve Bumbry hit a sac fly to right field.

Frederick quickly added to its one-run lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. With two on and two out, Adam Donachie belted a pitch over all three tiers of signage in left field. Donachie's third home run in two nights put the Keys on top, 5-1. Over the past two nights, Donachie drove in eight runs. In his first 16 games with Frederick, Donachie had a total of two RBI.

After Hall scored on Bundy's wild pitch in the third, the Owasso, OK native cruised through his final four innings of work. Bundy allowed one run on three hits over seven innings. He also struck out six batters as he improved to 7-5 on the season. Bundy has more wins in 2011 than he did in his first three professional seasons combined.

RHP Sean Gleason closed out the game and notched his 20th save of the season. Gleason became the first Keys since Jacobo Sequea in 2003 to register 20 saves in a season.

In his return to the Keys lineup, 1B Tyler Townsend went 1-for-3 with a run. Townsend was also hit by a pitch on the night. The Lewes, DE native had been sidelined since June 8th because of a hamstring injury.

Game two of the Keys and Blue Rocks series will take place on Monday night in Frederick. RHP Oliver Drake (5-3, 2.79) will start for the Keys while Wilmington turns to RHP Elisaul Pimentel (4-4, 4.10). First pitch from Harry Grove Stadium is set for 7:00 p.m.
