Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
Wappingers Falls, NY (7/8/15)- The Hudson Valley Renegades fell to the Brooklyn Cyclones by a score of 5-3 on Wednesday evening at Dutchess Stadium.
Brooklyn picked up a run in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by third baseman David Thompson to take a 1-0 lead. That lead was extended to 4-0 in the top of the fourth inning as the Cyclones scored three runs, keyed by an RBI single by first baseman Zach Mathieu.
Hudson Valley cut the lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning as with one out, first baseman Hector Montes doubled. He scored later in the inning on a throwing error by Cyclones catcher Manuel Hilario who was attempting to throw out shortstop Michael Russell trying to steal second base.
The Cyclones scored a run in the top of the fifth inning to take a 5-1 lead on a two-out RBI single by center fielder Enmanuel Zabala. But the Renegades would not go down with out a fight as they picked up a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI single by second baseman Jake Cronenworth. He then scored later in the inning when right fielder Joe McCarthy reached on an error.
But that was all the scoring on the night as Brooklyn relief pitchers P.J. Conlon and Alex Palsha combined to pitch a scoreless eighth and ninth innings, with Palsha picking up his fourth save of the season.
The win went to Gaby Almonte (2-1), who allowed three runs and one un-earned run in five and a third innings. Hudson Valley's starting pitcher Greg Maisto (0-3) took the loss, allowing four runs in four innings.
With the result, Hudson Valley falls to 9-9 on the season while Brooklyn improves to 13-5.
Notes: Reece Karalus pitched an impressive eighth inning out of the bullpen to keep Hudson Valley in the game. After a pair of hits and a fielding error loaded the bases, Karalus induced Mathieu into a ground out the cut a runner out at home, Hilario to pop-out and a fly out from shortstop Alfredo Reyes. Karalus pitched a clean ninth inning as well to give him two shutout innings on the evening and two straight outings without giving up a run.
Hudson Valley travels to Brooklyn to face the Cyclones on Thursday, July 9th, with first pitch scheduled for 7:00pm. The Renegades return to Dutchess Stadium on Friday, July 10th as they host the Brooklyn Cyclones with first pitch at 7:05pm.
