State College Spikes News Release
(STATE COLLEGE, PA) - State College Spikes fans will have plenty of family fun to enjoy during a jam-packed six-game homestand starting Wednesday, July 8. The promotional slate is headlined by a wide array of activities, including a Myrtle Beach, SC vacation giveaway for one lucky fan, Military Appreciation Night, and a pair of FIREWORKS shows at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
The Connecticut Tigers (Detroit Tigers) and Tri-City ValleyCats (Houston Astros) will provide the opposition for three games apiece in the homestand, which runs through Monday, July 13. The trio of games against Tri-City will present a rematch of the New York-Penn League Championship Series matchup in each of the past two seasons.
The homestand begins with back-to-back fan favorites, starting with a Half-Price Wednesday, presented by BIG Froggy 101, when the Spikes face Connecticut at 7:05 p.m. That's followed by a $1 Beer Thursday, presented by 93.7 THE BUS, at the 7:05 p.m. game between the Spikes and Tigers. Fans can enjoy 12-oz. domestic draft beers from 6-8 p.m.
Friday, the series against Connecticut concludes with a 7:05 p.m. matchup. VisitMyrtleBeach.com presents all of the fun as one lucky fan 18 and up will win the chance to compete in the Myrtle Beach Relay for a vacation getaway to Myrtle Beach, SC, and the skies will light up after the game with a fantastic FIREWORKS show.
Tri-City then comes to town on Saturday for a 7:05 p.m. game on Military Appreciation Night, presented by Lion Country Kia and the Centre Daily Times. Lion Country Kia will also present a Spikes Camouflage Hat Giveaway to the first 1,000 fans when gates open to the public at 6 p.m., as well as a Game-Used Hat Auction to benefit PSU for Local Wounded Warriors featuring the Spikes' autographed patriotic hats worn on July 3.
Saturday is also the first chance for one lucky fan to play Plinko and be a big winner thanks to Lion Country Kia. Every Saturday, another brand new KIA will be on the line if a contestant can drop Plinko discs in the "K," "I" and "A" slots on the board in order.
Sunday, get the day started with the Spikes Youth Baseball Clinic from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, presented by Penn State Hershey Medical Group. The clinic is free to kids 12 and under with a ticket to Sunday night's 6:05 p.m. game against the ValleyCats.
